Could Ceramic Membranes Be Heat Sterilized?

Yes, ceramic membranes can be heat sterilized. But steam sterilization is a delicate procedure, which carries significant risks of damaging the system components often induced by the difficulty to control temperature gradient below 10°C (55°F)/minute.

For this reason, we recommend sterilization using pressurized overheated water. Ceramic membranes can be routinely sterilized using steam or pressurized overheated water. The membrane must be cleaned prior to any sterilisation. Heat sterilizing a dirty membrane can stabilize and/or coagulate foulants.
